I recently came back from a week long visit to Vietnam as part of a consulting project for a large local restaurant chain there. The trip took me to Ho Chi Minh City, Bien Hoa, and Hanoi and I was able to visit most of the major commercial retail developments as well as the leading restaurant chains and meet with many real estate brokers and food suppliers. Over the past six years, the Vietnam foodservice market has been growing at a compounded annual rate of over 9% per year, slightly below India and China but on a par with Indonesia. Recently, the economy has faced challenges but the food & beverage industry continues to grow at double digit rates. Here are my impressions from the trip.
